MTV goes HTML, FYI

WTF? (Okay, enough with the acronyms)

Alice posted to the Asides that MTV launched it’s HTML version recently, based on some undisclosed “user feedback”. Okay, it’s fast, it’s searchable, it’s linearized, but is it good? Hardly. It’s actually pretty butt ugly. This makes me sad; true, with all the really well done sites out there that are HTML/CSS driven, the bar is set high. But this was a great chance for the MTV team to really knock it out of the park and become a design and standards leader in the mass media online content world.

This is a very public and mainstream company which is making a stand in the world of web development, and the result, if you follow the over 600 comments posted to the MTV Labs blog, is setting the precedent to MTV.com users (many of the generation who consume more media online than off) is that HTML “suxx”.

Yikes, let’s give it another try, huh?
